Meeting of the Mid-Sussex Franco-British Society
21 March
In March, the Mid-Sussex Franco-British Society will be hosting Brian Stimpson, for his talk “Degas, Valéry et le Dessin”.
In this illustrated talk, he will consider the relationship between seeing and drawing by considering the paintings and sketches of Degas and Valéry. He will examine their particular approach to the self-portrait in the light of this phrase by Valéry: “Even the most familiar object becomes something else if we apply ourselves to drawing it.”
Brian has presented to the Mid-Sussex Franco-British Society many times before and he always gives a very insightful and also accessible approach to his subject.
The meeting will take place from 19:45-21:45 on Thursday 21st March at Haywards Heath Town Hall RH16 1BA.
