Things to do in November in Burgess Hill
With the crisp air and golden leaves of autumn giving way to the cool days of November, here’s a guide to some of the best activities to make the most of November in Burgess Hill.
Remembrance and Armistice Day Commemorations
Remembrance and Armistice Day celebrations will be held on 10th and 11th November in Burgess Hill.
The Annual Remembrance Day Parade and service will be held at the War Memorial on Sunday 10th November.
A parade will start from Church Road, leading to the War Memorial in the town centre for a service of remembrance at 11:00 am, where a two-minute silence will be observed to honour those who have served and sacrificed in wars and conflicts. Local veterans, cadet forces, and community groups will participate. All residents are invited to join and pay their respects.
On Armistice Day, Monday 11 November at 11am, Burgess Hill Town Council and the Royal British Legion Burgess Hill Branch will jointly commemorate the event. Town Councillors, Royal British Legion Colour Party, and Town Council Staff will march from the Help Point in Church Walk to the War Memorial commencing at 10.50 hours.
This will be followed by 2 minutes silence at 11.00 hours, after which there will be a short ceremony to remember all the animals that served, suffered and died alongside the British, Commonwealth and Allied forces in the wars and conflicts of the 20th century.
Burgess Hill Town Council’s Help Point will be hosting the People’s Wreath for members of the public to donate their poppy to the wreath. The wreath will be placed on the War Memorial on Armistice Day, Monday 11 November. If you would like to donate your poppy, please drop in to the Help Point at 96 Church Walk, Burgess Hill from Friday 1 November.
Burgess Hill Christmas Lights Switch-On
One of the highlights of the Christmas season in Burgess Hill are the Christmas Lights Switch-On. The town centre comes alive with twinkling lights, Christmas music, and a festive atmosphere. Held on Saturday 23rd November, the event features live entertainment, a countdown to the light switch-on, and an opportunity to visit Father Christmas himself. There will be food stalls, craft stands, and plenty of activities for kids. The ever popular Imperial Outlander Cosplayers will also be back! It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season with friends and family.
Burgess Hill Music Concerts
Be sure to take in one of the many concerts taking place in Burgess Hill during November and December. Burgess Hill Symphony Orchestra, Burgess Hill Choral Society and Burgess Hill Marching youth all have upcoming concerts taking place at St Andrews and St Johns Church respectively. An Organ Recital is also taking place at St Johns Church following the Organ Restoration. Tickets for all these concerts can be purchased from the Help Point at Burgess Hill Town Council.
Cozy Up in a Local Pub
With the shorter days and colder nights, November is the perfect time to enjoy Burgess Hill’s local pubs. Venues like The Woolpack, The Oak Barn, and The Railway offer warm and welcoming atmospheres, ideal for enjoying a Sunday roast or a pint of local ale. Many pubs will also have fires lit, creating a perfect cozy ambiance to relax with friends or family. If you’re lucky, you might even catch some live music or quiz nights that make these evenings even more enjoyable.
Walk the South Downs
November is a stunning time to visit the South Downs National Park, just a short drive from Burgess Hill. The autumnal hues of the landscape, combined with the crisp air, make for invigorating walks along the rolling hills and valleys. Head to Ditchling Beacon for panoramic views, or try shorter, scenic routes like Jack and Jill Windmills. November’s quieter trails allow for a more peaceful and reflective experience, ideal for those looking to connect with nature.
Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, festive fun, or a quiet, cozy retreat from the November chill, Burgess Hill has something to offer everyone during this transitional month. Embrace the changing season and enjoy the town’s mix of nature, community events, and early festive cheer!
